## Completed Projects by Location

### Roseville, MN — Backyard Patio & Fire Pit Transformation

**Project type:** Patio Design & Build, Hardscaping, Landscaping
**Neighborhood:** Roseville, Ramsey County, MN
**Home type:** Two-story vinyl-sided home, built 1978, flat backyard lot

This Roseville homeowner had a neglected backyard with an old cracked concrete slab, overgrown weedy lawn, and no usable outdoor living space. The project included complete demolition of the existing concrete, installation of a large natural flagstone patio (approximately 400 sq ft), a curved stone seating wall with built-in fire pit, perennial garden beds along the fence line planted with coneflowers, hostas, and ornamental grasses, full lawn restoration with sod, and overhead string lighting strung between the house and a new cedar post. The backyard went from completely unusable to the family's favorite room in the house.

**Key challenges:** Clay soil required significant base preparation to ensure proper drainage under the flagstone. The existing fence was preserved and integrated into the new design.

### Shoreview, MN — Front Yard Landscape Redesign

**Project type:** Landscaping Design & Installation, Concrete Walkway
**Neighborhood:** Shoreview, Ramsey County, MN
**Home type:** Ranch-style brick and white vinyl siding home, built 1965, flat front lot

This Shoreview homeowner's front yard had patchy brown lawn, overgrown 1960s-era foundation junipers that had grown to block the windows, and no curb appeal. The project included removal of all existing foundation plantings, installation of four curved garden beds with a mix of native Minnesota perennials (Karl Foerster grass, black-eyed susans, coneflowers, Endless Summer hydrangeas, hostas), a new stamped concrete front walkway replacing the original cracked concrete path, decorative steel edging, and fresh sod throughout. The transformation dramatically improved the home's curb appeal and made it stand out on the block.

**Key challenges:** The old juniper root systems required significant excavation. Soil amendment was needed to improve drainage in the clay-heavy front yard.

### White Bear Lake, MN — Stamped Concrete Driveway Replacement

**Project type:** Concrete Work
**Neighborhood:** White Bear Lake, Ramsey/Washington County, MN
**Home type:** Colonial-style home with two-car garage, built 1989

This White Bear Lake homeowner had a 30-year-old concrete driveway that was severely cracked, stained with oil, and had weeds growing through every joint. The project included full demolition and removal of the existing driveway, installation of a new stamped concrete driveway in an ashlar slate pattern with a charcoal color wash and buff release agent, a new concrete apron at the street, and a decorative exposed aggregate border along both edges. The new driveway was sealed with a penetrating concrete sealer rated for Minnesota freeze-thaw conditions.

**Key challenges:** The existing driveway had settled unevenly due to frost heave over 30 years. The new installation included 6 inches of compacted Class 5 gravel base and proper control joint placement to manage future movement.

### Maplewood, MN — Retaining Wall & Garden Terraces

**Project type:** Hardscaping, Landscaping
**Neighborhood:** Maplewood, Ramsey County, MN
**Home type:** Split-level home, built 1972, steeply sloped backyard

This Maplewood homeowner had a backyard that sloped so steeply it was completely unusable — the lawn was impossible to mow safely and the slope was causing erosion that was washing soil toward the house foundation. The project included a three-tier retaining wall system using natural limestone blocks, creating three level terraces of usable yard space. Each terrace was planted with a mix of ornamental shrubs, perennials, and ground cover appropriate for the sun exposure of each level. Natural stone steps connect each level, and a French drain was installed behind the upper wall to manage water flow.

**Key challenges:** The steep slope required careful engineering to ensure wall stability. All walls were built with proper batter (backward lean), drainage aggregate, and footing depth appropriate for Minnesota's 42-inch frost depth.

### North St. Paul, MN — Front Yard Curb Appeal Package

**Project type:** Landscaping Design & Installation, Decorative Edging
**Neighborhood:** North St. Paul, Ramsey County, MN
**Home type:** Cape Cod style home, built 1955, small urban lot

This North St. Paul homeowner wanted to improve the curb appeal of their older home before listing it for sale. The project included removal of overgrown foundation plantings, installation of new garden beds with low-maintenance perennials and flowering shrubs, decorative steel edging throughout, fresh mulch, and a minor lawn renovation with overseeding and fertilization. The entire project was completed in two days and significantly improved the home's street presence.

**Key challenges:** Limited budget required creative plant selection to maximize visual impact. We focused on high-impact areas visible from the street.

### Arden Hills, MN — New Construction Landscape Installation

**Project type:** Landscaping Design & Installation, Sod
**Neighborhood:** Arden Hills, Ramsey County, MN
**Home type:** New construction two-story home, 2023 build, bare lot

This Arden Hills homeowner moved into a newly built home on a bare lot with only builder-grade grading and no landscaping. The project included design and installation of a complete front and backyard landscape: sod throughout, curved garden beds with a mix of native and adapted Minnesota perennials, arborvitae privacy screening along the back property line, foundation plantings, a decorative stone pathway from the driveway to the back gate, and landscape lighting along the front walkway.

**Key challenges:** New construction soil is typically heavily compacted and nutrient-depleted. We amended the soil throughout with compost before planting and installing sod.

### Vadnais Heights, MN — Concrete Walkway & Steps

**Project type:** Concrete Work
**Neighborhood:** Vadnais Heights, Ramsey County, MN
**Home type:** Ranch home, built 1980, front entry with grade change

This Vadnais Heights homeowner had an original concrete front walkway and steps that had heaved badly over 40 winters, creating a trip hazard at the front entry. The project included demolition of the existing walkway and steps, installation of a new stamped concrete walkway in a broom-finish texture with exposed aggregate border, three new concrete steps with a non-slip broom finish, and a new concrete landing at the front door. The new walkway is properly sloped for drainage and was installed with a 6-inch compacted gravel base to minimize future frost heave.

**Key challenges:** The grade change at the front entry required careful step design to meet code requirements and ensure safe footing in winter conditions.

### Little Canada, MN — Backyard Hardscape & Fire Pit

**Project type:** Hardscaping, Patio Design & Build
**Neighborhood:** Little Canada, Ramsey County, MN
**Home type:** Two-story home, built 1985, flat backyard with old wood deck

This Little Canada homeowner had a rotting wood deck that was beyond repair and wanted to replace it with a low-maintenance hardscape solution. The project included demolition of the existing deck, installation of a natural stone patio with circular fire pit seating area, a stone retaining wall along the back property line, and new landscape beds along the house foundation. The fire pit area features a built-in stone seating wall with cap stones and a steel fire ring insert.

**Key challenges:** The old deck footings had to be removed and the area re-graded before patio installation. The retaining wall along the back property line required coordination with the neighboring property.

### New Brighton, MN — Shade Garden Installation

**Project type:** Landscaping Design & Installation
**Neighborhood:** New Brighton, Ramsey County, MN
**Home type:** Ranch home, built 1968, heavily wooded backyard with mature oaks

This New Brighton homeowner had a backyard dominated by mature oak trees that made it impossible to grow a lawn. The project included design and installation of four large curved shade garden beds under the oak canopy, planted with shade-tolerant Minnesota natives and adapted species: hostas (multiple varieties), astilbe, ferns (ostrich and cinnamon), Solomon's seal, wild ginger, and bleeding heart. Decorative steel edging defines each bed, and fresh hardwood mulch was installed throughout.

**Key challenges:** Oak tree root systems required hand-digging to avoid damage. Soil amendment was needed to improve the acidic, compacted soil under the oak canopy.

---

### Shoreview, MN — Driveway Widening & Apron Replacement

**Project type:** Concrete Work
**Neighborhood:** Shoreview, Ramsey County, MN
**Home type:** Two-story home, built 1991, single-width driveway

This Shoreview homeowner had a single-width driveway that was too narrow for two cars and had a deteriorating concrete apron at the street. The project included widening the existing driveway by 4 feet on each side using matching concrete, installation of a new concrete apron at the street connection, and a decorative stamped concrete border along both outer edges to add visual interest. The widened driveway now comfortably accommodates two vehicles side by side.

**Key challenges:** Matching the color and texture of the existing 30-year-old concrete required careful mix design and finishing technique.
